Meet Alan, our highly qualified Manager who’s passionate about quality aged care

Alan first started working in aged care as a kitchen hand when he was just 15 years old. Inspired by the compassionate care the team provided to residents, he decided to study Nursing and went on to specialise in Emergency Nursing for 16 years. Alan’s leadership abilities were recognised when he was appointed Director of Nursing at NSW Health, but he was drawn to return to the aged care industry. He joins Vincent Court after three years as the Manager of a Port Macquarie aged care community.

What do you love most about your role as Manager?

Aged care is a wonderful, dynamic and very rewarding career. Working with older people is a pleasure as they have such rich stories and life experiences. It’s a privilege to support residents to live their best lives, and I love getting to know them and their families.

What makes Vincent Court so special?

I think the word ‘community’ sums it up perfectly. Vincent Court was founded to serve the local community, and it is still achieving this purpose now – more than four decades on. Most of our dedicated team members are locals and they’re committed to making this community a safe, welcoming and fun environment where everyone is respected for what makes them unique.

How do you think you’re making a difference to residents and staff?

I’m passionate about driving positive change in aged care and delivering continuous improvement throughout our whole community. As Manager, I’m building on the culture of caring that firmly exists here, so that residents enjoy freedom, choice and deserved dignity.

My experience, and the skills I’ve developed in the broader healthcare industry, help me lead my team in a way that encourages open communication and collaboration. It’s very rewarding to see staff members grow and develop their abilities and confidence.
