Meet Care Manager, Susan
Susan began working with older individuals when she first trained as a nurse. Having enjoyed a long career in nursing and education, she’s now returned to those roots and is dedicated to making a difference as Vincent Court’s Care Manager. She is part of a team who, through their day-to-day activities and interactions, provide important care, compassion and connection, ensuring residents are enabled to live their best life.
What do you enjoy most about supporting residents?
My favourite part of the day is hearing residents’ stories and learning from their wisdom. It’s fascinating to hear about their lives and how they’ve helped to shape the Australia we know today. I also enjoy meeting their families and friends and giving them confidence that their loved ones are being expertly cared for in a community that feels like home.
How do you create a positive environment?
I bring a positive and empathetic approach to every interaction I have with the residents. I also support residents to maintain as much independence as possible, so they can continue to accomplish and enjoy things. Personally, this is very rewarding.
What do you see as the impact of your role?
I like to be there for the residents for anything they need. It’s important to listen and show kindness.
Hopefully they see me as a confidante who provides advice, guidance and support.
How does technology help Vincent Court deliver better care?
CareKeeper holds all the updated information about each resident’s care needs and it alerts us when something has changed. It enables communication in real time so we can provide timely care for residents. It also provides us with their story, their lifestyle preferences and how they like to spend their day. This technology enables us to build better connections with residents and optimise their wellbeing.
At Vincent Court, residents are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on getting to know and understand individual residents, and supporting them to maintain their interests, routines and connections to the people and places they love. We use innovation to help us deliver personalised, meaningful care.
