Residents saddle up for our much-loved annual ball
Yee-haw! Our famous annual ball was a fabulous foot-stomping, boot-scootin’ shindig!
A Country and Western theme saw our Recreation Centre transformed into a scene straight out of the Wild West. Guests were all provided cowboy-style red bandanas to add to their costumes, immediately setting the tone for a fun afternoon. Themed decorations, including large murals of horses grazing or in their stables, ‘wanted’ posters, inflatable farmyard animals and mock hay bales made by residents were strategically placed around the room adding to the atmosphere.
One of the most popular corners was the photo booth. Residents and staff could don a range of playful props and pose with friends. The booth proved a source of entertainment throughout the event with plenty of laughter as residents embraced their inner cowboy.
Local musician, Kathryn, had guests tapping their feet and singing along to a selection of well-known country tunes. And the spread of delicious hot finger foods, sandwiches and an assortment of sweet treats, ensured there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Sister Cabrini even managed to wrangle one of the inflatable piglets and is still looking after it in her room!
Lifestyle Lead, Michelle says residents are always fully invested in the ball that has become such an important event on the activities calendar. “They choose the theme each year, and love getting involved in the planning and preparation. There is always lots of discussion about their themed outfits, too. I love their excitement when it comes together on the day. Seeing them laughing together, singing and clapping along and making memories with friends is what it’s all about,” she says.
The event has been a point of discussion around the community ever since. The residents have continued to remark on the beautiful event, how much fun it was and the hard work put in to making it such a success. Some have already started to talk about what the theme for next year could be.
